What Are The Health And Fitness Issues That Concern Americans The Most?

Health and fitness are clearly central themes for every single one of us, if the number of available opinions on the subject is anything to go by. The deluge of new health and fitness articles published each month can be a little overwhelming. How is a person supposed to wade through all the information to find the nuggets he or she was looking for, without losing your mind in the process? We have done a little of the data crunching for you, to offer you our compact guide to articles on health and fitness.

Take a browse with the search engine of your choice to gain access to a wealth of newly-published information and you will see straight away that fitness is fun. Health issues less so, since they can be rather more cause for concern. Articles are written on a plethora of available topics, covering all possible aspects of health and fitness, always up-to-date. If you are interested in obtaining or publishing fitness articles for free, a number of sites can provide a wide variety of articles for publication. The proviso is that the material is not edited in any way, so any commercial content is not lost. The Virtual Fitness trainer, for example, has informative, up-to-date, upbeat and readable articles on any and all of the categories discussed, as does EzineArticles, the ever-ready resource on all known topics, where keen and well-informed authors express their heartfelt opinions and share their expertise.

Interestingly, the topic of most concern for the American public is clearly nutrition, with more than a third of available articles concerning this issue. This is hardly surprising in a country where a whopping 23% of the population is obese and 60% definable as overweight. Factors affecting weight loss and dietary supplements for those reducing in weight are naturally a priority and very much in evidence. Related to these are the many articles on exercise techniques. Indeed, whole websites are dedicated to this topic, because if you they act as remote a personal trainer, with a structured, tailor-made fitness program for each member who logs on. This is a prime source for fitness articles, although the wary will want to watch out for merchandising pure. Clearly some of the advice on apparel and products is not entirely impartial.

The nutritional disorder diabetes is another highly popular theme. This comes as no surprise, with 6% of Americans suffering from some form of diabetes. Sufferers in this field like to keep abreast of the latest in news and medical advances, because a small change in this field can make an enormous difference to quality of life. And if you can feel it in your bones, you are bound to find something for you which will make you feel more comfortable. Articles on arthritis, osteoporosis, back problems and ageing in general are available. There's something for everyone.

Before skin, hair and nail products, snoring and erectile dysfunction comes the whole gamut of mental health products and techniques. Whether you are into aroma therapy, relaxation, psychotherapy or meditation, you can keep abreast with a couple of clicks of your mouse. Health and fitness affects us all, so go ahead and enjoy yourself and take advantage of your ready access to a little of the latest on whatever takes your fancy. You may learn something which you didn't even realise you couldn't live without. And you can take that to dinner tonight.

Parasite Symptoms - How to Know If You Have One With Ideas to Prevent and Kill Them!

Today I'm going to share with you the leading parasite symptoms and ideas to prevent ever getting them. A parasite is something that lives off another person sucking nutrients from them, such as Anna Nicole Smith marrying a rich guy who was six times her age.

A few other examples would be a worm inside your body, body lice and even a fungus. You can get one by touching an object that has it, a handshake and even walking barefoot on a surface. Even if you don't come into contact with anyone, but live in your home you can still get a nasty invader that harms you and do you know how? Yep, it's by eating uncooked meat, unclean vegetables or drinking contaminated water.

A few examples of worms that enter your body could be a tapeworm, hookworm, pinworm or roundworm. The first symptom probably will be with the digestive system. This includes constipation, maybe diarrhea, stomach pains, feeling nausea or having a lot of gas.

Next look down at your stools. This is going to sound very gross, but if you find little pieces of a worm there is a good chance you have a parasite. Stools that are bleeding could be an indicator as well as finding mucus in them.

As the worms eat the nutrients you consume you could feel more hungry than usual, as well as experience a wide range of symptoms associated with vitamin deficiency. Some examples of this could be fatigue, possibly depression, muscle pains, having an easier time bleeding, as well as a lack of concentration.

For a skin parasite one of the most common signs is going to be itching in the area. The next common indicator is going to be redness, a rash and possibly bumps that are associated with inflammation.

To prevent getting lice or fungus it's best to practice good hygiene. This includes taking regular showers, changing and washing clothes as well as bed sheets. Other ideas could include not walking barefoot in public places, avoiding contact with an infected person, and don't share towels or clothes. If you do have a skin parasite there are tons of remedies that could kill it.

What I really like using is something called coconut oil. It helps fight bacteria, viruses, parasites, is great for the skin and is really inexpensive. When it comes to preventing a worm infection the best idea would be to ensure you don't eat contaminated food or water.

If you think for a second you might have a parasite inside you the good news is that you can kill it by using various home and plant-based medicine. Coconut oil can not only kill skin parasites, but if you eat it you can eliminate any harmful bugs or worms that are living in the digestive system.

Another idea is that by improving your digestive system you can kill of these annoying living creatures. Believe it or not you have good bacteria in your body that constantly fights bad bacteria and it can fight parasites. To improve the good bacteria you can take prebiotics. The last idea I'm going to share with you is that there are tons of herbs that can help such as olive leaf extract, garlic, pumpkin seeds and even something called wormwood.

Let Them Get Fat

When I get away to Michigan to see my mom, the kids and grandkids, and some friends, it can be intense but a lot of fun. It's always been very important for me to stay in touch with family and friends. And the experience always rejuvenates me. For some, being away from home can be hectic. We easily use the excuse that because we are on vacation, we're too busy -- exercise and a good diet is no longer a priority. That's the last thing we have in mind when vacationing. Instead, we stay up late, sleep in, eat what we wouldn't dream of eating back home, have a few desserts. And why not? You're on vacation, right? But, if you think about it, that comfort food that always has that extra special taste, not only has a direct negative hit to our health, but also our waistline.

Some years ago, I talked to one of my friends, who at that time owned and operated one of the top ten restaurants in the United States. The topic was on nutrition and he said to me, "In our business, we don't cook for health, we cook for taste and that's how we sell food. People, in general, aren't looking for health or even thinking of it." Well, no wonder many come back from vacation with all that extra weight!

Below are some special tips while traveling to keep you healthy, stay in great shape, and even shed those unwanted pounds:

Rise and shine at the same time and train for at least half an hour. This way, you can get your exercise done before your family gets on their program. And if you need extra hours of sleep, you can always grab a nap later in the day. Remember, you're on vacation!
Eat in moderation. Rich foods, sweets and carbohydrates are all okay; however, take only a bite or two. And pass on those creamy desserts. Instead, stick to sorbets and fruits. Pass on the bread, rice, potatoes, cookies and cakes. You'll be glad you did when vacation is over. And if your family and friends want to eat like there is not tomorrow, let them. But stick to your guns.
Stay hydrated! Drink more water than you usually do at home, minimum three quarts a day if you are not exercising. If you are going hiking, playing tennis or anything physical, it's important to drink even more. Also eat hydrating foods for snacks such as fruits or veggies.
EXERCISE! Walk, both forward and backwards. Stretch, swim and incorporate different possibilities as long as you stay physically active.
Stillness. Doing nothing is an important part of relaxing and recharging your body, mind and spirit. It's okay if you don't stop at every roadside attraction. Try swinging from every tree or saying hello to every friend and family member. Relax! You'll find yourself more peaceful, happier and a lot healthier than the rest of your traveling partners.
Get touched. Treat yourself to a massage, facial, scalp massage or foot reflexology. And if you are with a partner, give each other a massage. This will really enhance your travel. When I travel to China to study, I always get an hour foot massage as soon as I get there and another one before leaving. This keeps me healthy, relaxed and puts a smile on my face.
Program your mind on how you want to look. This may sound a little strange, but it really works. I program my food by telling it where I want it to go and what I want it to do. For example, I say to myself as I am about to eat, "I want this meal to strengthen my muscles and give me more energy" or "By eating this food, I will lose weight."
When you follow these seven easy tips during your vacation, it will really become a real vacation. You will return home in better shape, with less of a belly, well rested, more energy and ready to go full force. We all know what it's like to return from a vacation and then need another soon after.

But because I always incorporate these seven tips, I come back with more energy than before I left - feeling great - ready to get back to work seeing patients.

How to Put On Compression Stockings

Compression stockings are used to help improve blood circulation in the legs. The most common users of compression stockings are patients who suffer from varicose veins, are recuperating from surgery or have spider veins. These stocking can also help relieve the symptoms of swelling, heaviness or pain in the legs.

Perhaps one of the most vital benefits is their ability to help prevent blood clots from forming in the legs. This is especially true if you are recovering from surgery or are less active then usual because of a number of medical reasons.

There are different sizes and levels of pressure available in compression stockings. The size and degree of pressure can vary according to your exact health conditions. Your medical practitioner may give a prescription that reaches your knee or can go to the top of your thigh. The level of pressure provided can vary from a light feel to a higher pressure. Your prescription will indicate the level of pressure you may need. They can come in a variety of colors to suit your individual preference.

Compression stockings may be covered by your health insurer or prescription plan. You should check with them as soon as your medical practitioner gives you your prescription to see if the stockings will be covered.

Once you confirm the price and level of coverage you have, make an appointment at a medical supply company. This appointment is vital to ensure a proper fit of your compression stockings. The medical supply company will measure your legs to obtain the exact fit of your compression stockings. Good fitting stocking will help you receive the maximum benefit from wearing them. It is most beneficial to wear them all day.

If you have never worn compression stockings, you may think putting them on is as simple as pulling on a pair of socks. However, there are some considerations.

Timing is important. You should put the stockings on first thing in the morning before you get out of bed. This is because there is usually less swelling in the legs in the morning.

Roll it up and starting at the toes, move the stocking to your heel. Push you toe in as far as it will go and place your heel in the designated area of the garment.

Once your foot is in place, slowly roll the stocking up your lower leg. When the top of the garment is in place, smooth the fabric to remove any sort of wrinkles or bunches.

Be sure any sort of lotion is dry before putting the stocking on. Wearing rubber gloves will help avoid snagging the fabric. Using baby powder will help the stocking glide over your skin.

With practice and patience, learning how to put on compression stockings will become a task that is easily mastered.

Advantages Of a Testosterone Booster

Maintaining one's health is very hard these days because of the busy schedule at work and at home. In addition, unhealthy food items like junk foods also cause serious effects on the body and your performance. To get rid of such issues, it is best to make use of dietary plans and take advantage of fitness programs. To ensure that your body can obtain all the benefits, you also need to opt for vitamins and minerals.

The body needs specific nutrients in order to function properly. Vitamin supplements are also needed since some food items cannot suffice all the nutrients the body needs. For instance, if you wish to boost your testosterone levels, opting for testosterone booster is ideal.

Testosterone is a hormone that is responsible for primary and secondary male characteristics in men like the presence of facial hair, deep voice and muscular development. It also helps individuals to prevent osteoporosis.

Having stable testosterone levels can provide all these wonderful benefits.

Improved Performance

Low testosterone levels may affect your performance. This means that you may be incapable of accomplishing your tasks efficiently. However, by ensuring that you have a stable T-level, you can easily improve your performance, from increased endurance and better recovery rate. Thus, you can do tasks easily. Having good T-levels can also help you improve your focus.

Enhanced Body Structure

Testosterone boosters can also help enhance the body structure. This is possible since the body's metabolic rate can be increased, which can help the body to burn fat easily. Furthermore, gaining muscle mass is more efficient. Because testosterone can help prevent osteoporosis, individuals can also strengthen their bones.

Prevent certain diseases

Other than osteoporosis, testosterone boosters can also eradicate other diseases such as diabetes since it can regulate the blood sugar. Blood circulation is also improved, which can help individuals have better cardiac health. With this said, heart infections and diseases can be reduced or even prevented. Testosterone boosters also help improve skin health that can provide you with anti-aging benefits as well. It can also help you sleep properly most especially if you are experiencing sleep apnea.

Complications in Sonography: To Tell or Not to Tell?

In the world of a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, there is little more rewarding than providing parents-to-be with glimpses of their little one developing in the womb. From a video of the first heartbeat to three-dimensional images taken near the end of the pregnancy, allowing parents and loved ones to view the growth and development of their babies is arguably one of the most satisfying aspects of a sonographer's career.

However, what happens when a scan does not go as planned, and the sonographer realizes that there is a complication with the pregnancy? Is it the duty of the sonographer to inform the parents, or should the parents wait to speak to their healthcare providers? It is a tricky situation for many sonographers since there may be differing laws and regulations pertaining to diagnosing complications depending upon the state and medical facility in which the sonographer is performing the scan.

To Tell or Not to Tell?

In some cases, a sonographer may wish to gently inform the parents that he or she has noted an abnormality with the fetus and that the parents should consider speaking with their healthcare providers. While this is a method of nudging parents to speak with their doctors for additional information, it may also cause unnecessary worry if the complication is not serious. On the other hand, remaining silent and allowing parents to believe that everything is normal with their developing babies may also be difficult for some sonographers, as the parents will not have any prior indication of a complication until they arrive at the next scheduled appointment.

Regardless, it is important to always conduct ultrasound scans with tact and respect. If a sonographer is unsure of what he or she is viewing, it is vital that he or she seeks the medical opinion from the presiding radiologist before he or she informs the parents. While all parents-to-be would like to remain informed on the development and growth of their babies, speculating that there is a complication when, in fact, the baby is healthy can often lead to disastrous consequences.

Observe without Diagnosing

The distinction between what a sonographer sees and what he or she concludes because of what is seen is an important one to make. In other words, sonographers are allowed to make observations and capture images of these observations, but they are not to diagnose what they see. While not all sonographers follow this rule, it is generally considered to be the most effective method of conducting an ultrasound scan.

It is also important to consider that, in this day and age, the patient will likely be able to tell what is happening. When ultrasound scans were first performed, the patient was not immediately privy to the images or findings. Instead, the technician was essentially a specialist photographer who would take images and submit them to the radiologist. The radiologist would write a report and send it to the patient's physician who would then inform the patient of the findings.

Now, however, as advances in technology have made scanning more transparent to the patient, the sonographer may freely chat and communicate what he or she is seeing. However, if the scan results are not as planned, the patient may notice a drop in the sonographer's voice, an avoidance of eye contact and the ending of a previously easy-going interaction. Rather than train sonographers on the best ways to continue with difficult conversations, some hospitals may consider restricting sonographers to speak at all while conducting ultrasound scans.

Above all, a sonographer should make the parents-to-be as comfortable as possible without acknowledging any complications or problems. If a patient makes a decision based on the unconfirmed "observation" of a sonographer, and that observation is incorrect, the hospital may be facing a lawsuit that could have been prevented. Instead, if the patient asks if there is a problem, it is typically expected that the sonographer will reassure the patient and inform her that her healthcare provider will be in touch.

Stopall Vs Real Houswives

"Ah-choo!"

I grab a tissue and wipe my runny, itchy nose and settle down to watch TV. Dern allergies!

I am, other than dealing with post nasal drip, engrossed in the fascinating interaction of the women of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. My allergies, however, are making it difficult for me to concentrate on their ongoing woes. I know Carlton doesn't like Kyle, and Kyle worries that Carlton will put a hex on her and her family. And Yolanda, who has some sort of exotic disease, annoys Joyce to no end but is ga-ga over her music producer husband, David. And Joyce, who is constantly discussing her husband's pee-pee, (and a grand one it is) doesn't fare too well with Brandi who used to absolutely despise Kim, but now they are best buds. And what do you think about Lisa? I think she lies a lot. JMHO. I missed last week's episode, so this is even harder to decipher, and now, allergies are dulling my senses. A commercial interrupts the show... and I learn something fascinating. There is a solution to my sniffling, runny nose and itching eyes... Loratadine!!

You say you've never heard of loratadine? (Just rolls right off your tongue, huh?) Understood. Right now, being sued by the 1% is not top of my list of "things to do today". So, I will simplify this for all of us, by inventing a new name for the television product. Stopall! Cute, huh? I have to admit I took my lead from the 1%. Cute and catchy, easy to remember name for loratadine, not be confused with desloratadine, a similar drug. Housewives drama is already taxing my brain, so we will just have to deal with the name desloratadine. Better yet, let's just forget about it since we would have to revert back to our second grade phonetic pronunciation. Des-lor-ah-tah-dine. (Google it) Just think, ass-pur-en.

Is this joyous appearing woman, frolicking in the underbrush a true testament to Stopall? Does habitual use of this product mean I will actually have relief from runny nose, nasal congestion, itching of the eyes, nose, and throat and skin hives? And an added bonus, joy beyond my wildest dreams? I keep listening. A miracle solution!

Forget the Houswives. I am fixated on the commercial. Stopall promises to relieve all my cruddy allergy symptoms. All of them! But then, hold on, there's more, the inevitable downside. I don't really want to hear this, but am forced to listen since Housewives is still in hiatus.

In a strong, reassuring, comforting male voice I hear the speaker continue,

"Stopall may cause drowsiness. Do not drive or use machinery until you know how it affects you."

Okay. Got it. Just a couple of questions. I understand that involves driving my car but does this mean I can't use my chain saw or drive my bulldozer? How about my can opener? Is that considered machinery? And just how drowsy? Like I might fall asleep in my car if were to be exceedingly daring and drove it? Or godforbid, fall asleep watching Housewives and miss the ongoing conflict, not mention falling behind in their cunning and captivating narrative?

And the voice continues,

"If you notice any symptoms of allergic reaction, stop taking it and see your doctor immediately."

Couple more questions here. If Stopall is to help relieve allergy symptoms, why "see your doctor immediately" if you notice allergy symptoms? Isn't that why you're taking it? And next question, wouldn't "see your doctor" entail driving to the doctor's office, who is not there because he's in Hawaii, courtesy of Stopall? Have you tried seeing your doctor on short notice? It appears to me that immediate medical attention went out with VCR players. I think we have some conflicting information here.

Is Sitting the New Smoking? Does Your Desk Job Put Your Health at Risk?

"Sitting Is The New Smoking" was the headline in many articles run this winter. Does that get your attention? It certainly got mine and I have continued to think about it through the long winter we had and as we move into warmer weather. Though I exercise regularly, sitting much of the day still may be bad for my health.

How much sitting are we doing?

Research shows that the average American spends over 9 hours per day sitting! Though, I rarely sit for too long without getting up - over the course of the day I am sure I fit into that picture like much of our population. We sit at our desks for work, on the computer at home, watching TV, reading a book, checking on social media. The list is long of all the activities that are spent sitting.

How is it affecting our health?

The bad news is sitting for long periods of time has been shown to:

-Slow the body's metabolism.

-Increase triglyceride levels.

-Decrease good HDL cholesterol.

-Decrease sensitivity to insulin.

-Increase risk for heart disease, diabetes, stroke, some forms of cancer and death.

Research has shown that individuals who sit for long periods of time have lower life expectancy, slower metabolisms and higher weight.

One of the problems

We are simply not paying attention! It is such a normal part of our everyday life that we don't realize how it may be impacting our health and how simple it would be to make some changes.

Get up and get moving!

Slowly incorporating more standing and movement into your day could go a long way to improving your health. Here are some ways that can help you get started:

1. Standing or treadmill desk. These have become more and more popular and there are a multitude of options available at every different price point.

2. Stretch throughout the day. Take a few minutes each hour to get up and stretch your body.

3. Sit on an exercise ball.

4. Get up and walk to talk with a colleague or stand or pace while talking on the phone.

5. Schedule walking meetings.

I purchased an Ergo Desktop for my desk and have really enjoyed standing more of the day. I don't spend all day standing, and in the morning I find I have less endurance for standing. But after I have been sitting for a while, my desk easily adjusts so I can stand up comfortably. I slip on my tennis shoes and give my glutes a rest. It feels great for my body and I feel good knowing that I am doing something good for my health.

Making it a priority

Being physically active takes a commitment to making it a priority. Though taking time for scheduled exercise is still very important, scheduling time for structured exercise may be a challenge.

Consider how you can build more movement into each day, prepare yourself with proper equipment (good shoes, equipment that fits your body) and make a change today - the benefits are worth the effort.

Antioxidants: The Benefits Of Antioxidant Drinks

Ever since the health benefits of antioxidants have been made known to the public by numerous health researchers and scientists, people have explored numerous antioxidant supplements and even antioxidant drinks. One of the most popular questions asked by consumers is; what is the best or most effective way of taking them? This raises the question, what is the most effective way for the human body to absorb antioxidants, in order to produce the desired results and health benefits. Just because a particular food product or supplement is packed with nutrients and vitamins offering numerous health benefits, does not mean that the human body effectively absorbs it. It is very common for many consumers to consume foods or products containing healthy vitamins and nutrients, yet often time those nutrients can be quickly expelled through urine, sweat, bowels, and other methods of human excretion without actually being absorbed by the digestive system.

This is why antioxidant drinks have become so popular lately. The human body has a significantly easier time absorbing something in liquid form as opposed to something in solid form. With something liquid like a drink, a person's digestive system does not need to work nearly as hard to break down solid particles (which you would have with food, or pill supplements) to extract the necessary nutrients and vitamins. Therefore when antioxidants are absorbed in liquid form, they are immediately extracted, absorbed, and released into the blood stream. Scientific studies have proven that only around 30% of what is ingested in solid or pill form is actually absorbed by the body. Whereas in liquid form the body is able to absorb around 90% of what is being ingested. Furthermore, an antioxidant drink can be more much more appetizing to most people as it offers an alternative to having to take any kind of pill supplement or having to consume a huge amount of berries or fruits just to get the same amount of antioxidants.

When examining different antioxidant drinks, it is important to remember that the more antioxidant rich fruits that are in the drink, the higher the antioxidant content of the drink. It is also important to keep in mind that certain fruits like mangosteen or acai berries have a much higher concentration of antioxidants than others. This results in a much higher ORAC, or Oxygen Radical Absorbency Capacity. The ORAC is a scale, which measures the concentration of antioxidants present in a particular item. Therefore it is important for a consumer to understand that not all antioxidant drinks are equal in their ORAC value. One antioxidant drink might not be as rich in antioxidants as another drink. It boils down to the fruit's concentration of antioxidants and the amount of actual fruit used in the drink itself.

There is an abundance of antioxidants present in both fruits and vegetables, therefore it can be pretty easy for a manufacturer to claim their product has antioxidant properties. So make sure you do your research before purchasing any product.
